Without love, they were doomed to be ousted from their kingdom at the end of a year and a day.

A year and a day passed.

This is where their story starts.

Imelda and Ambrose can’t remember why they got married. A year and a day ago, Ambrose consulted a witch, trading their love to save Imelda’s life – and they’ve been stuck with one another ever since. When that same witch pays them a visit on the day they lose their kingdom, she promises to make their deepest wishes come true in exchange for a simple favor and a short journey. With nothing left to lose, Imelda and Ambrose agree. But, over the course of their enchanted road trip peppered with a delirious cloak, cannibals, and at least one honey badger, something magical happens…little by little, step by step, they regain what they had forgotten.

They remember why they fell in love.

When the end of their journey nears and they confront parting ways forever, a new decision faces them. Will Imelda and Ambrose choose their deepest wishes, or will they choose each other – again?"

My Review:

Really enjoyed this original story within a fairy tale world! The FMC is one of the sisters form 'The 12 Dancing Princesses' and there are cameos by other fairy tale characters, but the main characters and the plot are unique, and fairy tale-like. She spent her junior year transforming her passion for sustainable fashion and upcycling into a viral online platform, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and spending every free second with her soon-to-graduate girlfriend, Danica. And this summer she plans to take it all to the next level by attending a prestigious summer fashion program in New York City and convincing Dani that they can survive a year of long distance.

But when Dani dumps her before classes even start, accusing Fitz of being more invested in growing her online persona than deepening their relationship, she’s left not only heartbroken, but also creatively blocked.

Fitz will do anything to win Dani back, even if that means taking a break from the platform that she’s worked so hard to build. But just as she decides to go all-in on a hiatus, a chance encounter reunites her with Levi Berkowitz, her childhood best friend that she hasn’t seen since elementary school. Levi is struggling with heartbreak of his own, and this cosmic coincidence sparks a new use for her social media savvy. Fitz offers to help Levi craft a fake relationship online to make his person jealous…if in return he can pretend to be her boyfriend in front of Dani to make her jealous. If all goes according to plan, by the end of the summer they’ll both be reunited with their perfect partners and get to rekindle their friendship in the process.

Sometimes even the most carefully designed plans can come apart at the seams, though. And when real history leads to not-so-fake feelings, Fitz will have to decide if she’s finally willing to let go of what she thought was picture-perfect and choose what might actually be right for her."

My Review:

Really love this coming of age YA Contemporary read. Fitz has amazing summer shenanigans in NYC, struggles with perfectionism and impostor syndrome while in an exclusive summer program at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology); all while fake-dating her childhood best friend (Levi) in attempt to make her recent ex (and roommate) jealous. There's so much going on for Fitz and I love every moment of being in her head. Levi is the perfect book boyfriend; kind, genuine, and a little awkward. And I like how part of Fitz's journey to 'fit in' was also with her parents and her 3 much-older sisters.

Highly recommended reading! 'I Wish You Would' is a tender, heartfelt tale of family, friendship, expectations, and finding yourself. It also has the sweetest love story between two best friends whose chemistry is off the charts. They begin fake-dating when they become co-workers at Riley’s father’s game store, and as they come closer to achieving their original goals for the fake relationship, Riley’s real feelings for Nathan catch her by surprise.

'Dungeons and Drama' is a YA coming of age novel in which we follow Riley as she learns that there are more important things in life than driving to a musical theater show without a driver’s license, in the dark. We get to watch Riley join Nathan’s Dungeons & Dragons game and learn that role-playing is quite similar to singing and acting, and like all the musical shows she so enjoys. This brings her some relief as she endeavors to convince her high school to not cut the funding for their Spring musical.

Riley and Nathan have been living in my head rent-free since I finished reading. Romance. Duty. Power...only one can triumph in this stunning conclusion to the New York Times bestselling American Royals series.

America's royal family is in shambles. Queen Beatrice is in a coma and Princess Samantha has gone missing—from the look of things, she ran away with her boyfriend, Lord Marshall Davis. Which means that Prince Jefferson is currently on the throne. For some in America, it's exactly what they wanted: a King ruling the country. And for Daphne Deighton, who has tricked Jefferson into dating her again, it's the ultimate dream come true.

Surely this is all just temporary. Won’t Beatrice wake up and reclaim her rightful place? Samantha can't really be gone…can she? And Prince Jefferson will never truly be over his childhood crush, Nina Gonzalez. Right?

For the Washington family, the stakes are higher than ever. Love might save the throne….if secrets don’t destroy everything first."

My Review:

As the final entry in the ‘American Royals’ series, ‘Reign’ brings us to the end of a year in the life of America's royal family. We've followed them closely from one December to the next, with detailed glimpses of the June before and the June after. We've learned a lot about their lives prior to when the narration begins, and we have detailed accounts of the June prior to this series beginning, the fateful night of the Washington twins high school graduation party where so much changed. The epilogue gives us a glimpse of where our beloved characters end up the following June, and provides hints of where they're heading.

But it's that year in the life of the Washington royal family that we follow closely. The year that so much changes for each of our narrating ladies, and for the royal family at large.

I really enjoyed this fourth and final installment in the ‘American Royals’ series! It was great to be back with these characters and to watch (even more) drama, secrets, and young romances unfold. My favorite parts were the growth for so many of these beloved characters; both the narrating ladies and the gentlemen in their inner circle.

Though we follow the same four ladies as narrators, readers also get to spend quite a lot of time with Prince Jefferson in this book, and that might be my absolute favorite part of ‘Reign’ – that Prince Jefferson is on the page nearly as much as any of the narrators, and that we get to watch him grow and mature, too.

Grab a copy!

Book 1 - 'American Royals'

Book 2 - 'Majesty'

Book 3 - 'Rivals'

Book 4 - 'Reign'

#AmericanRoyalsIVReign #NetGalley - I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. Walther knocks it out of the park, yet again! I had a wonderful time following Lily and Tag on a guided tour of memories as they (the Jester and his Fools, including Lily) spend from midnight-until-dawn hiding clues for their Senior Class President to follow in order to recover the stolen yearbooks. Watching what happens next, as they go through the last 2 weeks of senior year, including prom, is lots of fun.

Don't miss this one! And one in which Natalya explores the city, tries to repair things with her mom, works on figuring out her future, and goes for the guy she never saw coming."

My Review:

This is a fantastic YA rom-com with a wonderful LGBTQIAP+ cast. We follow Natalya through the summer; both if she chooses to stay in New York City with her Dad, and also if she chooses to spend the time visiting her Mom in Los Angeles. In NYC, she gets to explore a relationship with her long-standing crush, a beautiful redhead named Elly, while going on adventures with Elly's friends and sees a whole new side of NYC. In LA, she she falls for Adam, the other intern at her Mom's office and has adventures with Adam, his brother, and their friends. Both scenarios offer a coming-of-age story and Natalya finishes the summer with ideas about college, a job prospect she's excited about, and she's really happy in her romantic relationship.

Grab your copy of this excellent LGBTQIAP+ inclusive YA Contemporary read!

#NetGalley - I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. She has a plan, and she won't be swayed. She'll spend the summer interning in her mentor's lab in Amsterdam, and then she'll be ready for college. All she needs to do to pay for the summer abroad is agree to serve as the au pair for Dr. Reese's three-year-old.

Sage has it all down to a science, but she doesn't anticipate the surprise arrival of Dr. Reese's teenage son. Ryland is spontaneous, flirty, and impulsive--everything Sage isn't. He's a talented artist, but he's desperately in need of someone to keep him focused. And as nannying proves harder than Sage had expected, it turns out she might need help too.

The two strike a deal. Sage will stop Ryland from going out with a different girl every day, and Ryland will pitch in with his little brother.

Spending the summer stuck together is the perfect way to keep distractions to a minimum. Right?"

My Review:

Excellent companion novel to 'Hot British Boyfriend' though readers do not need to read 'HBB' to enjoy this one.

Readers follow hard-working go-getter Sage as she spends the summer in Amsterdam, volunteering in her mentor's lab and preparing a poster for a prestigious conference, while babysitting her mentor's 3-year-old. When her mentor's teenaged son, Ryland, unexpectedly returns home for the summer, Sage is surprised by how distracted she is. Though she tries to concentrate on her daytime babysitting duties and evenings-and-weekends data entry for the lab, Sage soon finds herself appreciating Ryland's help with his brother and his companionship while they each work.

It's lots of fun to watch Sage fall for Ryland, despite her own best efforts. This is a very cute romantic comedy YA Contemporary with easy-to-root for characters and excellent character development. White-knuckling her way through high school with flawed executive functioning has left her burnt out and ready to start fresh. Working as an intern for her perfect older sister’s start up isn’t exactly how Tilly wants to spend her summer, but the required travel around Europe promises a much-needed change of scenery as she plans for her future. The problem is, Tilly has no idea what she wants.

Oliver Clark knows exactly what he wants. His autism has often made it hard for him to form relationships with others, but his love of color theory and design allows him to feel deeply connected to the world around him. Plus, he has everything he needs: a best friend that gets him, placement into a prestigious design program, and a summer internship to build his resume. Everything is going as planned. That is, of course, until he suffers through the most disastrous international flight of his life, all turmoil stemming from lively and exasperating Tilly. Oliver is forced to spend the summer with a girl that couldn’t be more his opposite—feeling things for her he can’t quite name—and starts to wonder if maybe he doesn’t have everything figured out after all.

As the duo’s neurodiverse connection grows, they learn that some of the best parts of life can’t be planned, and are forced to figure out what that means as their disastrously wonderful summer comes to an end."

My Review:

This book and its lead characters are neurodivine! I love all of author Mazey Eddings' neurodiverse characters, but Tilly and Ollie are my favorite. Messy, larger-than-life Tilly is vibrant and practically vibrating out of her skin as her mind swirls and runs laps and is never calm. Oliver is quiet, tidy, and meticulous. They are (seemingly) total opposites thrown together for a summer internship involving frequent travel and a shared hotel room.

Their neurodivergence brings them together, via mutual sensory overload in a loud and crowded town center. As they each stim to self-regulate, they see parts of themselves reflected in each other, and their slow-burn romance takes off from there. They are so sweet and caring with each other, it's truly beautiful to watch their relationship bloom.

I hope this wonderful book reaches each and every single neurodiverse reader of YA Contemporary books.

Pre-order here - 'Tilly in Technicolor' releases on August 15, 2023.

#NetGalley - I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. His descendant, Arthur, a future Lord and general gadabout, has been betrothed to Gwendoline, the quick-witted, short-tempered princess of England, since birth. The only thing they can agree on is that they despise each other.

They’re forced to spend the summer together at Camelot in the run up to their nuptials, and within 24 hours, Gwen has discovered Arthur kissing a boy and Arthur has gone digging for Gwen's childhood diary and found confessions about her crush on the kingdom's only lady knight, Bridget Leclair.

Realizing they might make better allies than enemies, they make a reluctant pact to cover for each other, and as things heat up at the annual royal tournament, Gwen is swept off her feet by her knight and Arthur takes an interest in Gwen's royal brother. Lex Croucher's Gwen and Art Are Not in Love is chock full of sword-fighting, found family, and romantic shenanigans destined to make readers fall in love."

My Review:

A fantastic tale, packed with witty banter and humor. Highly recommended for fans of King Arthur as well as Fantasy and even Romantic Comedy readers.

Princess Gwen and her betrothed, Arthur, take turns narrating each chapter. Arthur's family is supposedly descended from King Arthur's line and he's about to marry into the royal family. We start following him just as he's about to spend the entire summer at the castle. He and Gwen hate each other, both have eyes for other people, and his body man and Gwen's lady in waiting instantly fall for each other.

What follows is a summer of self discovery, royal obligation, and humorous, drunken shenanigans. Her senior-year trip to London was supposed to be life-changing, but by the last day, Wren’s perfectly-planned itinerary is in tatters. There's only one item left to check off: breakfast at The World’s End restaurant. The one thing she can still get right.

The restaurant is closed for renovations—of course—but there's a boy there, too. A very cute boy with a posh British accent who looks remarkably like the errant Prince Theo, on the run from the palace and his controlling mother. When Wren helps him escape a pack of tourists, the Prince scribbles down his number and offers her one favor in return. She doesn’t plan to take him up on it—until she gets to the airport and sees cancelled flights and chaos. A comet is approaching Earth, and the world is ending in eight days. Suddenly, that favor could be her only chance to get home to her family before the end of the world.

Wren strikes a bargain with the runaway prince: if she’ll be his bodyguard from London to his family’s compound in Santorini, he can charter her a private jet home in time to say goodbye. Traveling through Europe by boat, train, and accidentally stolen automobile, Wren finds herself drawn to the dryly sarcastic, surprisingly vulnerable Theo. But the Prince has his own agenda, one that could derail both their plans. When life as they know it will be over in days, is it possible to find a happy ending?"

My Review:

It was a lot of fun to follow Wren and Theo through Europe, racing against the clock as the world was set to end in the span of 8 days. There was a slow-burn romance that built up between them as all of Wren's careful plans and itinerary lists went up in smoke.

Hilarious witty banter features in most scenes, as Wren and Theo had decided early on to skip pleasantries and be (sometimes brutally) honest with each other. Relatable secrets, family conflicts, and self-esteem issues are revealed as they get closer.

Grab a copy here!

#NetGalley - I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. But can Seelie harness her magic in time to protect her sister, and herself?"

My Review:

This YA Fantasy novel has fairy magic, a mysterious quest, and excellent representation in the autistic main character. Twin sisters attempt a simple treasure heist and find themselves wrapped up in a journey towards even greater treasure, teaming up with a broody, privileged companion and his quick-witted friend. Close quarters and magic training help the four to set aside their differences, and about halfway through the book, the action picks up. Way up. Fairy realm glamor, hi-jinks, and tricks of magic make for entertaining tests for our adventurers.

Grab your copy here!

I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. The sequel to Castles in Their Bones is the story of three princesses and the destiny they were born for: seduction, conquest, and the crown.
Princesses Beatriz and Daphne have lost their older sister, but their mother's grand scheme of taking the continent of Vesteria is far from complete. With the country of Temarin now under the Empress's control, only the nations of Cellaria and Friv remain free from her rule. What's worse, an ominous prophecy has begun to shine through the constellations: the blood of stars and majesty spilled.

Usurped by conniving cousins Nico and Gigi, Beatriz fears for her life, while in icy Friv, Daphne continues her shaky alliance with the rebels even as she struggles to stay a step ahead of them. But when an unlikely ally offers Beatriz a deal, she finds herself back in her mother's sights.

With enemies around every corner and the stars whispering of betrayal, Daphne and Beatriz can't trust anyone--least of all each other. If they've learned anything, though, it's that the Empress's game is constantly changing.
