‘Slumber’ (Beauty Never Dies Chronicles #1) by J.L. Weil

3.5 stars

After sleeping for a hundred years, Charlotte Winston is awoken by a Prince.

Well, not an actual prince, but a very handsome Dash Darhk.  An unknown biologically-altering mist struck the Earth over a hundred years ago, and all humans fell into a deep sleep.  Some have been awake for a year, some for longer.

Dash leads Charlotte towards other settlers and survivors, explaining various changes to the environment and ecosystems.  A witty and resourceful hunter, Dash agrees to help Charlotte find her parents and sister, as he is searching for his family as well.

‘Slumber’ is post-apocalyptic YA fun.  The book is narrated entirely by Charlotte, with dialog ranging between exploration of an altered Earth, attempts at understanding the magic-like abilities she now possesses, and fighting the attraction she and Dash so clearly feel towards each other.

‘Slumber’ will be available on January 10, 2017.

‘The Curse Catcher’ by Laura Thalassa

5 stars

Well-written novella-sized supernatural delight. As usual author Laura Thalassa has skillfully combined Greek mythology with a magic of sorts, with spectacular results.

This is part of the new series of short stories all taking place in the same Complex.  As with other The Complex books, ‘The Curse Catcher’ is available as part of the Kindle Unlimited program.

'Heartless' by Marissa Meyer

5 wonderful stars!

As usual, Meyer delivers a carefully thought out, well-written spin on a fairy-tale. 'Heartless' is the origin story for Wonderland's Queen of Hearts.  All the sweetness and sacrifice tugged at my heartstrings, and Raven's rhymes were a delight.  This is magical YA young-romance at its finest.

Available wherever books are sold, and likely at your local library too!

‘Vampire Eternal’ (Heartblaze #3) by Shay Roberts

5 stars!

(Read my reviews of ‘Heartblaze 1 and 2’ here and here!)

‘Vampire Eternal’ is the gripping conclusion to Shay Roberts’ magical and compelling historical fiction ‘Heartblaze’ series.  As usual, Roberts’ writing seamlessly integrates narration from several points of view, as the story covers multiple time periods and supernatural beings.

The ‘Heartblaze’ world is a historical fantasy with many supernatural aspects; vampires, were wolves, were bears, witches, faeries, ghosts, and more.  Soul mates share a special and powerful connection that can span centuries and reincarnation.  While the plot has a large and developed focus, one of the main points is the connection between soul mates Emma Rue/Cassandra and Julian.  This series pulled my heartstrings a bit.

An excellent choice for fans of fantasy, paranormal romance, supernatural beings, or historical fiction.

Thanks to author Shay Roberts for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
